Hi,

We are using cvsnt on Windows 2003 with McAfee VirusScan 7.0 Enterprise.
I have not heard about any slowness issues related to this.
What do you mean by "unusable slow". Can you quantify this?

The CVSNT party line is "Do not use AV software on the server or the
client".
However, like you, my company requires it. I heard rumors that the
files could get corrupted so I did my on investigation. Here is the
Executive summary of my findings. I can give you more details if you want.

CVS Robustness Test Results

Executive Summary

The CVS server running on Microsoft Windows (cvsnt) has a history of
incompatibility with Anti Virus (AV) software such as Norton Anti Virus and
McAfee Virus Scan. Specifics about the nature and consequence of this
incompatibility are sketchy at best. So, I decided to design a test that
would explore the extent of this problem.

I tested on the exact server configuration we intend to use for CVS
(including McAfee Virus Scan). My test generated a high volume of CVS client
server activity for a total of 62 hours and looked for failures on the
client, server and date store.

The results indicate that the problem is minor. Out of close to 400,000 test
cycles, there were only 17 errors ( a 0.004% MTBF), all of which were
remedied by simply retrying the operation a second time. There was no data
corruption. All of the errors had to do with the server and AV software
vying for access to the file and generating the infamous MS Windows "Share
Violation".

Hope this helps.
