If you use Apache, then these accounts are not used at all. They are
IIS specific.
In fact I have no idea which accounts actually are used when Apache executes
a script, but whatever this account is it is the one that needs the permissions
set. Maybe you can test SYSTEM, even though one would believe that SYSTEM
has all needed permissions by default....

BTW: I have now installed Apache at home and I have started updating my
ViewCvs installer to also install to Apache. It actually seems quite simple
so far, I have not ran up against the permissions problems yet. They are
probably lurking behind the corner though....

Hi,
I am using "apache" for cvsweb and the default webserver that comes with
viewcvs for running viewcvs (i.e. one that is run using standalone.py).
My machine does not have IIS setup and therefore did not have the
accounts you mentioned below.
Therefore, I create these local user accounts: IUSR_<compName> and
IWAM_<compName> and set them up to have a blank password that never
expires /can not be changed by user. Then I gave them execute
permissions on cmd.exe. In-spite of this I am still getting the same
error.

PS- Do they also need execute permissions on rlog.exe/ cvs.exe etc.

Thanks and regards

Aditya Gandhi

Check the permissions on Windows\system32\cmd.exe
In order to run from ViewCvs you need to give the IUSR_<computername>
and IWAM_<computername> accounts execute priviliges on this file.
I guess that cvsweb has the same limitations.

What is the webserver you are using? IIS or Apache?

PS: Please don't send replies directly to my email, it is enaough to
post to the list. DS
