If you create an adminstrative file CVSROOT/readers and then add the user logins as separate lines into this file then CVS will only allow read access for these users. Then you can disable the file system locks on these users. Or you can explicitly allow write to CVSROOT/history for all users, this way you can control access via the NTFS file system. Lock files are not used anymore if you enable the Lockserver service. But CVS write temporary data to the Temp dir used by CVS (configured in the control panel). This folder therefore must have full access for everyone. Users use their network login when using CVS, so I can control access to the repository by assigning access rights on the server directories by network login id. This works for those who I want to give full access, but if I give someone read-only access they still can't access the repository because CVS attempts to write a history and a lock file. Is there an easy way around this or do I just have to give them full access and trust that they're not going to start modifying code?
