[cvsnt] Can't compile CVSNT 2.5.01.1882 on Redhat linux 9.0

I don't have a /etc/pam.d/cvsnt, I do have a /etc/pam.d/cvs which contains:

#%PAM-1.0
auth     required       pam_unix.so
account  required       pam_unix.so
password required       pam_unix.so
session  required       pam_unix.so

I'm afraid my knowledge of how PAM works is extremely limited -- but
this has always worked in the past.  In fact, if I revert to 2.0.62.1817
(the previous installed version) I can log in properly, but it fails
when going back to 2.5.01.1882.

Any other info I can provide?
