Yes, although in the old versions ACLs are in the .owner and .perms files.

The clients can usually cope, although you can get some odd warnings. 
Things like commit -c will fail though as the server no longer has any 
record of the active edits.  If you have a lot of these it may be best 
to make sure everyone does an unedit or commit first.
