Hi.

Client: Concurrent Versions System (CVSNT) 2.5.01 (Travis) Build 1910
(client/server)
Server: Concurrent Versions System (CVSNT) 2.5.01 (Travis) Build 1910
(client/server)

Server OS: Windows 2000 Professional SP4
All anti virus related services are disabled (I've got a task list to prove
it; previous CVSNT was running for years). No firewall / proxy / filtering
either.

I've recently updated CVSNT on the server and clients from 2.0.58d (if I
remember it correctly) to 2.5.01 without any problems. However, "cvs update"
now fails locally on the server, where it used to work just fine. The only
other software change was Windows Update.

I got two new error messages.

[in sandbox] cvs -z0 -t -t update
14:46:02:   -> Tracelevel set to 2.  PID is 244
14:46:02:   -> Session ID is f442494e0a1c23

14:46:02:   -> Client codepage is CP1252
14:46:02: -> Server version is CVSNT 2.5.01 (Travis) Build 1910

14:46:03:   -> Requesting server cvsrc (read-cvsrc2)
14:46:03:   -> Sending file 'citk_Bla.h' to server
? SomeFile.dsw
cvs [server aborted]: protocol error: directory 'd:/cvsroot/module/blasdk'
not within root 'd:/cvsroot'
cvs [update aborted]: reading from server: error -1

First error: directory x not within root y

I've tried different aliases for that cvsroot: d:\cvsroot, d:/cvsroot,
/cvsroot, /d//cvsroot. Doesn't seem to make a difference and all of them
work on the clients. I've removed the folder "InputDevices" in the server's
sandbox and cvs update -d correctly recreates the folder without problems.
Subsequent updates continue to work. Strange. There are a couple of folders
with this behaviour.

Second error: reading from server: error -1
Also: writing to server socket: error -1

These error also occur without any "protocol errors", so I don't know if
they're related. Strangely though, solving all "directory not within root"
errors, I got rid of these socket errors too?

I've searched the archive (using google's site:cvsnt.org) for this problem
but found no previous references.

Is it just me or is there something strange going on here? Should I update
CVSNT again?

Lionello.
