It should be OK, but it's not something I've tried recently... tend to 
just create files with one or the other and leave them that way.

Seems to... there haven't been any bug reports against it recently. 
It's not as optimal as it could be but the delta format is simple and 
unchanging, so any future changes to that won't break anything.
