cvs.exe log: Characters from server lost in translation
when I checkout a project or do a "CVS log".
I know this is caused by the locale translation, since
the server is english and this happens when I checkout
some files with french names or comments (with french's
accentuated characters). So far it has not been too much
of a problem, but if anyone knows how to correct this.
It would be much appreciated.
I tried setting the LANG environment variable but it
didn't work.

Server is Gentoo Linux (packages are up-to-date in stable branch),
Kernel gentoo-sources 2.6.12-r4,
CVSNT 2.5.01.1927
Clients are TortoiseCVS 1.8.18 with cvsnt 2.0.68.1817 on windows XP SP2.
