Not without a 64bit machine with lots of memory (20GB+).  Even the 
network transfer for such a file would take a considerable amount of 
time, let alone the time to process/diff it.

It's not the kind of thing that really suits version control.. you'd be 
better off putting the contents under version control where necessary 
rather than a large disk image.
