Firstly you need to be aware that CVS 1.12 is NOT a stable product and I certainly would not be using it in a production environment, we perform very little if any testing with it.

Secondly many CVSNT features require CVSNT server including: failsafe audit, merge tracking, changesets, user defined change sets, rename etc etc.

Using CVSNT on your Ubuntu server is a much better option.
