I tried to verify that. But I've found the DIFF working well (checked
NT-client 1.11.1.3 Build 57d against nt-server Build57d and
Unix-Server 1.9.16).
What are the versions of your client/server?

Btw. what is the sense of comparing a version from a branch against the
main trunk from "yesterday"? (The diff will not compare the branch
from "yesterday" against your actual branch.)
