See the InstallationTips document for starters.  XP home or pro?  Domain?

--> SSPI is the simplest protocol to use (no user setup, just Windows 
users), but all XP Home connections come in as "guest" by design of the 
OS.  Be sure to disable "simple" file sharing on XP pro.
