I know from history it used to be used to do incremental backups (windows sets
the archive bit when you modify a file). I've not seen it used for a long
time... anyone else?

I'm using it at the moment as temporary storage of the executable bit. At the
moment I'm not sure whether it's worth trying to write extra code to set it on
the client, or just leave it... don't want to fubar anyone's backup procedures
