This has been discussed frequently.  Basically on a network share,
apart from the traffic issues (the repository data is travelling over
the network twice for every action) the locking over a network share
isn't reliable enough to be 100% certain you won't get issues with it.


Also to use the repository over a network share takes some extra
configuration (running the service as a normal user and disabling
impersonation).
