Basically you're getting the problem that your machine isn't part of a
domain but you're trying to use cross-domain trusts, which doesn't
make sense.   Don't specify the domain in the username - in a
standalone (workgroup) machine it won't be able to validate any users
that aren't on that machine anyway.  Using pserver with cross-domain
trusts works (we use it here) but generally in that configuration you
wouldn't use a passwd file anyway, so the cvs passwd command wouldn't
be used.
