Just found out that advanced file sharing options *can* be configured in 
XP Home using the following command:

	rundll32 ntlanui.dll,ShareManage - Shares

This launches a simple GUI that allows shares and their permissions to 
be administered.  Use %windir%\system32\rundll32 if the command is not 
found.
