I think it could be useful a way to "backup" the history of a file up to 
a tag (or date, or the like), and then "remove" that "backed up history" 
from the repository.

It could be a welcome addition. Some files are just stored inside the 
repository because they belong to the projects, but do not need 
versioning when modified.
