MSDE and MS SQL Express: 1) Are not cross-plaform 2) Database size is limite (4 GB in SQL Express 2005) 3) Can't use SMP. 4) Are a bit "heavy" anyway - install them on the same machine of CVSNT and a good slice of RAM has gone. > Also the freebie Oracle versions... ? AFAIK there is nothing free from Oracle. Oracle at least is cross-platform, but it can be expensive. In the open source arena I'd give a look to Firebird too.
