He means that when you add a file to a CVS module usingthe "cvs add"
command then you should also set the file type properly.

If the file is added as text then it will be like I described and can
be diffed and merged. If it is added as binary it is binary and cannot
be diffed or merged.

All of us here in this forum (CVSNT) assume that you are asking
relevant questions concerning the way *CVSNT* works, but it looks like
instead you are asking about a program called Websphere or maybe
Eclipse works and therefore confusion arises.
Please ask the questions in the proper forum, CVS questions here and
Eclips questions in its forum....
