For example there are a number of dependencies on Microsoft dll:s that may be different on your PC as compared to the run-of-the-mill ones. One thing in my mind is those development mfcXX.dll:s that seem to be different between development machines and non-development machines. I know that once upon a time there was a clash between some of these in system32 and the local ones preventing control panel from running.
