I don't object to the post, but feel the concept is completely backwards - 
expecting to get paid upfront for opensource work?

Produce patches.. maintain your own branch if you like.. maybe someone will 
pick up your code and pay you to maintain it.  OTOH maybe it'll die because 
nobody is interested.. those are the breaks.

The alternative route is to form or join a company, produce a proprietary 
extension (using cvsnt hooks or a wrapper of some sort) and make money that way.

Nobody is going to throw money at you just because you think you can add a 
good feature... the world simply doesn't work that way.
